節能風潮蔓延全球，即便各大車廠所堅持的方式各有不同，諸如Hybrid油電混和、Plug-in Hybird、EV純電動車等各行其道，但仍然是未來車輛替代動力的來源之一。而韓系車廠HYUNDAI集團針對旗下兩大品牌HYUNDAI以及KIA在節能動力上的兩種導向區別，HYUNDAI將採Plug-in Hybird與Fuel Cell兩種動力來發展，而KIA則將專注純電動車的研發且還要導入其它地區來銷售，也就是一輛全球戰略純電動車款。
