「希臘為期6年的經濟不景氣，明年將會告一段落。」希臘總理薩瑪拉斯上周六在一場位於塞薩羅尼奇的展覽活動如此表示，他並指出希臘是一座「穩定的島嶼」。另外，根據希臘統計局指出，希臘今年第二季經濟衰退3.8％，是3年來最低水準，打破原本預期的4.6％，少輸為贏，主要是受惠貿易及觀光業表現優異所賜。

希臘經濟自2008年起，已經衰退23％，並從其他單位獲得金援達2400億歐元（約台幣9.4兆元），其中金援紓困的條件，便是政府必須大幅度削減支出，提高稅賦並改革勞工市場與退休金。不過，寒冬似乎已經過去，薩瑪拉斯指出，希臘經濟衰退幅度，明年將開始縮小，其中又以觀光業表現最亮眼，他說，「其負成長遠低於今年預期的水準。」

據統計，今年觀光業預估可為希臘帶來110億歐元（約台幣4312億元）的直接收入，間接收入金額則可達300億歐元（約台幣1.2兆元）。

希臘今年也可望達到初步預算盈餘的目標，勢必可為明年還債打開一道門，希臘今年前7個月預算盈餘已達11億歐元（約台幣431億元），8月受到觀光業的帶動，數字表現也可望繼續亮眼。

希臘在2012年經濟成長衰減6.4％之後，對希臘伸出援手的歐盟與國際貨幣基金會預測希臘今年GDP將再倒退減少4.2％，希臘自從2010年被排除在金融市場外後，一直因為想要得到台幣9.4兆元紓困金額，而被減支的時限，壓得喘不過氣來。

國際貨幣基金會與希臘都預計，2014年到2015年希臘金額還需要110億歐元進行紓困，約台幣4312億元。2014年下半年則會繼續獲得資金。
